Sunday Smorgasbord

(Every Sunday, I plan to share some of my favorite links or websites.)

One of my favorite blogs (Stuff Christians Like) made me LOL for real with this post on the rarity of church organists (specifically young organists).  Jon Acuff, you had me at “At a wedding recently I experienced the musical equivalent of a unicorn.” 🙂

Jimmy, a former Compassion kid, shares his story about overcoming poverty. His testimony is one of the reasons I chose to work with Compassion. You can also watch the moment when he first met his sponsor, and see how the circle continues as Jimmy has now become a sponsor himself.

Check out these cute knitting projects (I’m trying the Ruffled Lace Scarf…emphasis on trying).

It’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas (or is it?). Maybe this year is a good time to start rethinking your gift-giving philosophy.

And, finally…my newest blog addition to the Google Reader feed and winner (in my opinion) for the funniest mom blog title ever: Minivans Are Hot.  Her subtitle reads, “Say it enough you’ll start to believe it.” 😉

Share some of your favorite links, pretty please with sugar on top, then find the nearest couch and/or bed for a Sabbath nap. Happy Sunday!

We’ve run with that gift-gifting philosophy. And, on my side of the family, we’ve also implemented a $10 limit (it was $5 last year, but that turned out to be almost impossible, so we’ve raised it this year). The gifts must be edible, needed, or useful–no “stuff” allowed. It was actually a lot of fun trying to decide what to get people last year, and the low price limit really forces you to be creative.

Good luck with the ruffled scarf. I made one very similar for my Mom a few years ago. Fun!

I was going to send you a message about understanding “Twice Knit” now. I spent all day yesterday working on the scarf only to pull it apart and start over today!
